Dr. Drew Hissong specializes in the preparation and prosecution of biotechnology and pharmaceutical patent applications. His technical expertise includes polynucleotides and polypeptides, modulators of apoptosis, mechanisms of signal transduction, cytotoxic agents, molecular tools such as vectors and promoters, assay systems, anti-sense RNA, stems cells, hybridomas and antibodies, and bacterial cell lines. He also has extensive experience in writing and prosecuting patent applications in the fields of antimicrobials, bacteriophage, pharmaceuticals, food products, and inorganic and organic chemistry.
Dr. Hissong received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and his Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). He also has an M.S. in entomology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.S. in biology from Kent State University.
Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Hissong spent 10 years with two other law firms focusing on intellectual property. While working on his doctorate, he served as a research assistant at UNC, focusing on molecular biology with an emphasis on growth factor maturation and processing. Dr. Hissong has co-authored papers for The Patent Lawyer, Molecular Biology of the Cell and Pharmacological Reviews.
