Counseling & Opinions

At Roylance Abrams counseling our clients is the core of our practice. We focus on protecting, and when necessary defending, our clients intellectual property assets. We take the time to understand their business objectives so we can provide counsel that furthers their business goals and protects their IP assets.

Our counseling expertise ranges from providing product design guidance to avoiding patent infringement issues to helping clients develop their IP strategy, which may include procedure manuals for managing and protecting corporate IP property such as trade secrets, trademarks, patents and copyrights for employees and contractor. We also analyze competitive patent and trademark filings for research direction, conduct corporate IP procedure audits and provide reviews and guidance at the engineer design level to avoid potential royalty-bearing events.

Our attorneys have extensive experience preparing opinions related to patentability, infringement, validity, trademark availability and registerability, right-to-use, technology expiration and evaluation of competing technologies.

We also advise our clients’ on mergers and acquisitions, entertainment law and a range of Internet issues including domain name protection; website policies and corporate site governance procedures; the collection, transfer and use of customer information; and regulatory complexities in an online environment.

Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., we are a short distance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Copyright Office, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and scores of other agencies and courts.
